McKenna is starting to say words that sometimes sound like English, and she'll even babble a few together in a meaningful sentence. Her vocabulary includes a few well-known translations, plus she continually tries to learn new words by pointing and saying, "dis?"
Her most common words/phrases are:
"meow" = "purple kitty doll"
"peas" = "Please get me..."
"Ah-ho" = "Hi Tahoe" (our cat)
"ahp-maa!" = "I see an airplane!"
"bee-pee" = "I just wet my diaper."
"poo-poo" = "I just farted."
"uh-oh" = "I just threw something on the floor."
McKenna frequently dances and plays jokes. If she likes a song, she holds up her fists and bends side-to-side in rhythm. She often hangs things out of her mouth until somebody notices, then she laughs at herself. In the car, she annoys Ashton by borrowing and not returning his toys. When not strapped in, Ashton is much better at stealing toys.
For their age, the kids play very well together. Ashton usually is very sweet and considerate of McKenna. When he does rip something from her baby-hands, he at least gives her another unwanted toy as trade. They routinely run around playing race or chase gleefully.
Ashton is an expert with scissors. He cuts out cars from magazines and pastes them to paper. Last Friday, we found some cuttings that were 1/8" diameter of cars individually removed from the background of a picture. Ashton is extremely meticulous and very capable, though easily frustrated. He's great with pens, pencils, markers, and paints, and he can now draw a basic car. McKenna also loves to draw; she even holds a crayon properly and makes tiny scribbles.
Both kids have a bitter-sweet attraction/aversion to tickling, with "pit-hooks" now a common weapon in my arsenal.
